Bourne Architects has designed a modern attached house in Beckenham, adding a side extension to the rear in matching red clay bricks and a zinc cladding roof that connects the interior space with the garden.
The project brief was developed according to the client’s urging needs on their routine. The client’s aim for a sustainable design, an interactive area on the ground floor and brighter spaces led to the design of a mezzanine, the masterpiece of this concept, and the inclusion of large windows and skylights that bring in plenty of natural light. Inspiration was drawn from the client’s lifestyle and the contemporary spatial quality of the building. By studying their complex structure, materials and mass, it secured planning permission without compromising the client’s vision, delivering a house that was considerably larger than what had preceded it.
Inside, large areas of glazing and windows keep the spaces’ light and airy. The ground-floor area was planned to bring interactive spaces resulting in an open area with integrated functions. Outside, extended to the rear garden to add to the interior space, delivering a house that is a stylish and contextually responsive new house.
