PITSTOP 21
Location | St Albans Rd, South Mimms Year | 2020 Client | Private Client Designer | Bourne Architects Status | Completed
The Pitstop 21 project brief was to transform an abandoned petrol station in South Mimms into a revamped station with a new signboard on the existing structure and a new timber cladding canopy for the carport.
The character of the proposed canopy does not dominate its context and is integrated into the existing canopy. The major design decisions made by the architects evolved around the colour scheme, name of the station and circulation of the space which shaped the appearance of the project. The logo and text were painted black on plywood boards and with laser-cut aluminium panels. The design respects the appearance of the existing building and it represents a robust form. The aim of the signboard seeks to enhance the visual amenity of the street scene. It is considered that the colours of the proposed sign match the existing building so that it will provide a better visual than the existing look.
