Cobham Bungalow Transformation
From single-storey bungalow to a generous family home, carefully coordinated through construction and completion.
This residential transformation in Cobham saw an existing three-bedroom bungalow substantially extended and refurbished to create a spacious two-storey family home. Working alongside the wider project team, Bourne Architects provided project management and interior design services through the construction stages, helping to coordinate the development from the approved scheme through to completion.
The addition of a new upper storey significantly increased the capacity of the house, while the completed interiors were approached with a deliberately restrained palette. Existing features, including the generous ceiling heights and exposed timber structure, were retained where appropriate and complemented by warm timber flooring, simple finishes and carefully integrated joinery.
At ground floor, expansive black-framed glazing strengthens the relationship between the principal living spaces and the garden, bringing natural light deep into the plan. Above, vaulted spaces, rooflights and a Juliet balcony make use of the new roof volume to create bright and characterful bedrooms.
Our role focused on the practical delivery of the project: coordinating decisions during construction, developing the interior scheme and helping maintain consistency across materials, finishes and detailing through to completion. The result is a considered refurbishment that transforms the scale and usability of the original bungalow while retaining the relaxed character of a family home.
